Wondering About Weather?

NOAA/National Weather Service Senior Meteorologist Hayden Frank, serving the Norton, MA Office, Will be here to talk about the National Weather Service’s core mission – the protection of life and property – and inform us about the various weather hazards that impact southern New England. Come and hear how information is disseminated and learn about the types of advisories, watches and warnings that are issued. Plenty of time will be allotted for questions during and after the presentation.

Family friendly and free and open to all participants.

Hayden Frank is the Severe Weather, Marine, Fire Weather and Outreach Focal Points for the NOAA/NWS office. He also works on various other programs including StormReady and numerous research projects. Hayden served the Wichita, KS area before transferring to Taunton in 2003. He loves all kinds of weather but always had a special interest in snowstorms, so living in New England is a perfect fit for him. Explore Earth: Our Changing Planet is a traveling exhibition for libraries. Explore Earth is part of the STAR Library Education Network (STAR_Net) led by the National Center for Interactive learning at the Space Science Institute. Exhibit partners include the American Library Association, The Lunar and Planetary Institute, and Afterschool Alliance. Explore earth is supported through a grant from the National Science Foundation.

Animal Tracking Program

Great for ages 8 & up with adult. Learn all about wild animals that live near you from Park Ranger Julie! What common animals can you see in RI and MA? What are their habitats, what do they eat and where do they live? What tracks to they make. Make your own animal track using plaster of paris and a rubber mold. Participants will be able to take home a mold. Space is limited to 12 participants making molds. Sign up at the children’s desk 769-9044 x2. Walk-ins will be welcome so long as there is space in the room. Part of our free Explore Earth STEAM programming.

Halloween Makeup for Teens

Learn techniques for making scars, bruises, and Halloween Zombie make up tips and more. Fake blood and face paint will be available for you to experiment with at the library. Some products may contain latex. Sign up by calling 769-9044 x3 or email efuqua@woonsocketlibrary.org. There will be snacks and Halloween cookie decorating as part of the program. Let us know if you have any food or latex allergies upon signing up. Open to students in Middle and High School only!

Haunted History

Presented by Ocean State Paranormal.

HAUNTED HISTORY will focus on the Varnum Memorial Armory and Museum; featured is the curator of the armory presenting several important pieces of RI history housed in their impressive museum, he may share a ghost story or two and it’ll be followed by a presentation of evidence collected by Ocean State Paranormal through several investigations there in 2 years. This is ONLY 1 of 2 lectures this year that will feature actual items from the allegedly haunted armory. The Ocean State Paranormal’s HAUNTED HISTORY Lecture will feature actual audio and video evidence.
