Upcoming Children’s Events

Aside from our vast catalog of books and media, the Woonsocket Harris Public Library is an eventful place filled with opportunities to meet like-minded people or introduce yourself to new interests. We have a constantly updated list of events for children, teens, and adults that vary in topic and style, ensuring that everyone can find a great fit and attend a fun and fulfilling event or group meeting.

Located in the children’s program room the third Saturday of each month 1-2pm October 20 November 17 December 15 Bring your imagination. We supply the Legos! We will put your creation on display until the next Lego Club meets. As these are the smaller Legos, an adult must be with the child in the room at all times for safety.

Fossil enthusiast Steve Emma will be here to talk with kids and their families about all different kinds of fossils, particularly plant fossils. There will be an interactive presentation with samples of fossils. Kids will even be able to take home some fossils. Great for ages 6  & up with caregiver. Kids 8 & up and families can learn about how bees make honey, how beekeepers raise bees, and the process of pollination from flowers to fruits. Why are bees important? How can we help them thrive? Identifying Clouds with iPads

Using iPads, participants will be able to take pictures of clouds (weather permitting) and then come inside and match the types of clouds they see to our STARNet Cloud Activity Cards. Then use the photo editor on the iPad to outline your cloud or make drawings or faces of your cloud. Your image will be printed or emailed to you the following week, as the program ends at 4:45 and the library closes at 5pm on Fridays. Sign up is requested as iPads are limited in number. Children attending 1st & 2nd grade will read with a teen buddy. This is an opportunity for the children to practice their reading skills in a relaxed environment. The teens will earn community service hours for the time they volunteer. There is also a time for coloring and puzzles .Registration is required for both teens and children. Please contact the Children’s room at 769-9044 Ext.2.Registration begins Monday 9/10/18.

Great for ages 8 & up with adult. Learn all about wild animals that live near you from Park Ranger Julie! What common animals can you see in RI and MA? What are their habitats, what do they eat and where do they live? What tracks to they make. Make your own animal track using plaster of paris and a rubber mold. In order to cater to a broad audience and include interests for everyone We offer a multitude of programs, events, and regularly recurring classes for children in the toddler & pre-k age range. Programs include story time, music, puzzle time and more.

Music

w/ Mr. Rowland

Takes place September – May on every other Friday.

He will bring music shakers for little ones to make their own music.

Mr. Rowland brings his guitar and sings new and classic songs for preschoolers.

Sensory Programs

Our sensory exploration programs can be enjoyed by children of all ages, abilities, and sensibilities with their adult caregiver. Listen to stories, sing a song, tell a felt board story, and visit our sensory tables for interactive play. Walk-ins are welcome so long as there is comfortable space in the room for all.
