Our Upcoming Events

Aside from our vast catalog of books and media, the Woonsocket Harris Public Library is an eventful place filled with opportunities to meet like-minded people or introduce yourself to new interests. We have a constantly updated list of events for children, teens, and adults that vary in topic and style, ensuring that everyone can find a great fit and attend a fun and fulfilling event or group meeting.

Make sure that you check our agenda regularly or sign up for our newsletter so that you don’t miss out on any of our amazing events and group meetings. We’re always adding to our schedule and there are always great opportunities on the horizon.

Earthquakes, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions! Kids model and demonstrate the phenomena that shape our ever-changing planet while learning about plate tectonics, meteorology, air pressure and more! Every participant makes and keeps their very own erupt-able Volcano! Volcanoes can’t be erupted the day of the program (they need time to harden), so we bring a larger version of our own to erupt as the big finish to the program. This program is appropriate for children ages 8 -12 with an adult caregiver. Registration is required. Registration for Summer programs begin on Tuesday 6/25. Open to caregivers and those experiencing memory loss.  Meets in the main program room when the library is open. Live & Learn is a social program for people with early memory loss offering new ways to compensate for memory changes. Contact Alz.org/ri at 1-800-272-3900 or email Margaret “Annie” Murphy at mmurphy@alz.org.  Group meets at Patriots Dinner, 65 Founders Dr, Woonsocket, RI on the last Wednesday of the month.

Children entering 1-3rd grade are paired with teen Buddies to practice their reading skills. They can read to their  buddy or be read to. This is a relaxed way to keep up their reading skills over the summer. This is also a great opportunity for teens ages 12-17 to mentor younger children and accrue volunteer hours they may need. There will be a time  for coloring and or puzzles at the end of the program. Registration is required. Registration begins Tuesday 6/25/19. Teens will need to fill out a permission form. Thursday August 8th 2-3pm Henna art will be limited to 10 participants due to time and number of cones available. Ms. Pinky will be here to do the henna hand designs. There will also be designs you can practice with on paper before using the cones yourself and create your own hand designs. Gladys Cole is a children’s theatre teacher, director, and playwright in Rhode Island. She worked on more than 150 shows and is the founder of G. Cole Productions. A musical theatre production company for children. She is excited to participate for the second year in a row with OLIS summer reading program A Universe of Stories. Gladys is offering two programs for children and teens. Introduction to Theatre class is designed for kids with little to no experience in acting. Author and RI educator Dana Gambardella reads from her two stories Mama Bear’s Magic and Grandma’s House. In Mama Bear’s Magic, Tiny Bear overcomes his apprehension for the bath because of Brother Bear’s modeling and Mama Bear’s clever approach. You can then tap into your own senses and experiences when the author’s memories of what she feels, tastes, smells, and sees come alive in Grandma’s House.
