Do you like being outdoors? Do you like seeing wildlife around your neighborhood? How about daily morning concerts, modern-day dinosaurs, captivating art, or real life Pokémon? If so, please consider joining the Audubon Society of Rhode Island and the Harris Public Library for a four-week homeschool program, “Birding and Beyond,” to explore the wonderful world of birds and birding right here in Woonsocket.

This program will consist of four sessions that will take place entirely outdoors at various parks around Woonsocket (World War II Veteran’s Memorial Park and River Island Art Park, etc.). Questions covered will include: “What is a bird?” “How do I watch birds in Woonsocket?” and “How do I continue birding after this program?” We will use nature walks, bird-themed games, nature-based mindfulness practices, and biological observations to teach these concepts. We will also provide opportunities for homeschoolers to tie in science and math curricula. This will be offered as a FREE program open to the public with advanced registration. No background knowledge of birds necessary; we will start from the beginning! The only requirements are comfortable shoes and readiness to learn outdoors. We hope that you will join our flock!

COVID NOTICE:

* Participants will be required to wear masks at all times, to separate into groups based on living situation, and be required to maintain a 6 foot distance from the other groups.

* Participants will be able to borrow binoculars and field guides that will be cleaned before and after use, but please bring your own equipment if you are able to limit sharing.

* Each student will receive a take home kit with materials for further exploration. Please be sure to bring water and wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.
